Shock Sessions: We Are The Fallen
We Are the Fallen — comprised of American Idol finalist Carly Smithson and former members of Evanescence — make their first public appearance for a small audience of family, friends and press at LA's SIR Rehearsal Studios. ShockHound was there to document it for this intimate "Shock Sessions" episode. Songs include their first single “Bury Me Alive” and Evanescence’s “Going Under.”

Carly's very shaky here, despite her power in my opinion. I'm not a fan of the lyrics either. =/ I feel that this band's motives are more so a big "F U" to Amy and to try and recreate Evanescence without her than it is to play the kind of music they like. Just from what Ben's said in the past and whatnot. I don't feel like getting into detail of how infuriated I was by this band's formation, (Where exactly is the originality they promised, anyway?) but I'm hoping they prove me wrong in the end. I'll be checking for their album to find out, but it just seems to me to be a big, dare I say it, cheap imitation of something that was hugely successful. As a fan, though, I'll be sticking with Evanescence, thanks.
I don't think that Carly has got the range or the eloquution of Amy Lee...she has a good voice but not a scratch on Amy's range etc. They should not sing Evanescence songs because as we are all doing, we are comparing....make more of your own songs. I love Bury me Alive by the way!!
Considering these are the original members of Evanescence besides Carly, it's not really copying. It's pretty much just Evanescence with a different name without Amy Lee. Honestly, nobody can replace Amy Lee's awesomeness, but Carly Smithson is a good singer. I think they just need to be given a chance to prove themselves. Amy Lee is probably going to be doing some of her own stuff now soon, so it'll all be good guys. I love the new song and the cover was good.
Some people seem to have a hard time understanding that 3 of the members of this band were in the original Evanescence line-up. So, of course they are going to sound like Ev. They were Ev. They are not copying Ev. That's like saying they're copying themselves, which is kind of messed up. I like this new song, and it's good to hear Ben, John and Rocky playing together again. Carly has an excellent voice, and the bass player (Marty) does a great job. I hope to hear more from these guys. I also wish all the best to Amy Lee and whoever ends up making music with her. People shouldn't feel some kind of need to pick sides (Ev versus We Are The Fallen). There are no sides here: no good or evil; no real or imitation. There are just two bands with some very talented people in them, and some of them used to all be in one band. It's not that complicated, really.
i agree with a lot of what you guys have been saying... it sounds (the setup, her voice,) like they are trying to restart Evanescence w/o amy lee, and they couldn't grab the name rights. i gotta laugh that at the cover portion they have to have part of the song playing in the background. as far as copying, id wait until an actual EP comes out cuz then wed see if she is the bands new amy lee or if they are trying to strike more of a new identity.
I also agree with SPAH...luckly Ev is coming back next year..hopefully to shove it in Carly's face...she's fake to me ~_~
Sounds WAY too much like Ev themselves...I feel like she's ripping off of Amy, cause she sounds like her...I don't want Ev to be copied...this is kinda creepy
Ben has writing credits for Going Under despite it being one of Amy's songs. And anyone can cover a song. I miss the gothic evanescence sound so Im very excited for this but Carly sounds closer to studio than Amy in my opinion. Amy has a much further range though.
i agree with SPAH. this just seems like their trying to replace Amy Lee rather than create a new image for themselves. And unfortunately Carly just doesn't have the vocals to compete with Amy Lee.
I feel like this is a bit of a spit in the face of current Evanescence members. Ben Moody is a genius, but with a band named from Evanescence's first album, an extremely similar look and sound, AND THEN they cover "Going Under" creative rights or not, this seems almost disrespectful.
Now who actually controls the material from Evanescence? Does Amy Lee? Do the some or all of the former band members who were fired by Amy Lee a few years ago? Carly does not sound good (maybe in the studio it will be better?) as Amy but then again Amy has done next to nothing for 3 years.
Carly actually fits very well with Evanescence's sound. It's cool that someone from american idol got to be in this position
