WATCH our video interview with Dan Taylor and Kelvin Swaby
"You want four people just making a stupid amount of noise?" asks Kelvin Swaby, the smooth-domed frontman of the Heavy. "Well, that's what we do!"
Actually, that's not all they do — since first emerging in 2007 from the tiny English hamlet of Noid, the Heavy have attracted notice at home and abroad for their gritty mash-up of funk, soul, blues, punk, indie rock, '60s garage and even enough residual traces of Black Sabbath to back up their name.
Released this past October, the Heavy's second album — The House That Dirt Built — totally makes good on the thrilling promise of their 2008 debut, Great Vengeance and Furious Fire. The band recently stopped by the ShockHound studio to give us a live taste of six songs from the new LP, as well as an in-person glimpse of Swaby's playful charisma.
Swaby and guitarist/co-founder Dan Taylor also sat for an interview, wherein they — among other things — affectionately compared discovering their music to stepping in dog feces. Sorry guys, but we're going to have to agree to disagree with you on this one!
