If you’re a Jane’s Addiction fan with $1,000 to spare and want to help save a life while you’re at it, then you'll probably want to know about this.
New York journalist Veronica de la Cruz recently began a Twitter campaign to try and save the life of her brother Eric, who desperately needs a heart transplant. She had only raised about $5,000 online (dramatically short of the six figure amount she needed) when something truly extraordinary happened: Trent Reznor heard of de la Cruz’s plight and asked Nine Inch Nails fans to pitch in.
On May 20, Reznor announced via Twitter that he would offer special NIN/JA tour VIP packages — allowing fans to meet the band backstage, plus watch soundcheck and the show from the side of the stage — with prices running from $300 to $1,000, to benefit Eric de la Cruz. He also added the option of a $10 "donate" button on his website for those who just wanted to help out. Well, help they did — as of press time, Nine Inch Nails fans have raised a staggering $850,000 for Eric de la Cruz. Trent has also received support from Tony Hawk, who donated limited-edition signed skateboards for fans to purchase, as well.
While the Nine Inch Nails VIP packages for the North American dates have already sold out, Jane’s Addiction (pictured above at one of their LA club shows earlier this year) have stepped up to the plate and are offering their own support for Eric by giving their own fans the following incredible opportunity: For $1,000, 10 fans per gig can watch Jane’s play a private show backstage. These lucky fans will also receive autographs from the band and the opportunity to watch their regular set from the side of stage.
The Jane’s Addiction VIP packages are currently on sale via their website. For more information on Eric de la Cruz’s situation, go to WeLoveEric.com. In the meantime, Eric is currently recovering from an emergency surgery but was able to pen a note to Trent that said, “There aren’t enough [words] in the dictionary to describe what you’ve done for me.” Leave it to Reznor to use the power of the Internet for good.
