Looks like Twilight’s Kristen Stewart will soon be cropping her hair into a '70s shag and dying it black — Jett black, in fact. The diminutive beauty, who is set to star in subsequent installments of the teen vampire franchise, has been tapped to play Joan Jett in an upcoming biopic about pioneering 1970s girl band the Runaways.
The film, which is being produced by Jett herself, will revolve around the Runaways’ auspicious start in 1975 as the brainchild of music man Kim Fowley (who thought an all-girl rock band was a guaranteed money maker) to the girls’ subsequent success with "Cherry Bomb," and their dissolution after internal issues proved impossible to avoid.
Although the band was created by Fowley, the collective chops of Jett, Lita Ford, Cherie Currie, Sandy West and Jackie Fox proved to stand on their own. The ladies’ lives following the band have also been the sort of stuff movies are made of: Jett and Ford went on to enjoy successful solo careers; Sandy West played in various bands for many years before dying of cancer in 2006; Jackie Fox went to Harvard and became a lawyer; Fox's replacement Micki Steele joined the Bangles; and Cherie Currie is now the proud owner of an art gallery where she displays her own chainsaw carvings.
The story line will be specificaly centered on Jett and Currie, and video director Floria Sigismondi is set to direct. The Runaways biopic is set to go into production in 2009 and will presumably work around Stewart’s busy Twilight schedule.

Dear Joan Jett, While I trust your decision to cast yourself, I'd like to point out that there are actors out there who are worlds better than the one-note tripe that is Kristin Stewart. Kat Dennings, Kristen Bell, Aynsley Bubbico ... Hell, even Blake Lively could do better!

Well if the film is being produced by Jett, she must have had some say in this, so if she trusts Kristen to portray her, then I do too. I was a huge fan of the Twilight books and thought that movie didn't do it justice, but books never translate to film the way you picture it. Anyway, I hope Kristen pulls it off and surprises everyone.
I'll give anything that involves JJ and K.Stewart a chance! I love them both! Being open minded is cool! I heart me!
I adore Kristen Stewart, and I think she's perfect to portray my life long idol Joan Jett. Some girls just don't understand the rest of us who are a bit off beat. But that's okay, it takes all kinds. Even girls named Jamyme Ashlan are good at something I'm sure...right?
I am offended. I love Joan Jett, always have in fact I get to see her in concert in a month. However, I truely hate Kristen Stewart. Twilight was one of the worst movies I have seen in my whole life, the acting was just awful. Also, Twilight was not the only movie with bad acting that Kristen Stewart has been in. But I mean all the power to Joan Jett and everyone, I will see it regardless without a doubt but K. Stewart is like having Lindsay Lohan play Stevie Nicks.
