Last time we saw the Like — on their 2005 debut Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking? — the barely legal quartet were crotchet dress-clad indie rock hippies. Some five years later, the Like have reemerged with a new sound and a new look thanks to a little help from producer Marc Ronson and their own vintage revolution. The quartet have draped themselves in the garb and the gear of the '60s, transforming into an utterly charming '60s-girl-group-inspired mod rock band, as revealed in the infectiously catchy tracks on their impressive sophomore album Release Me.
The talented and well-dressed Z Berg, Tennessee Thomas, Annie Monroe, and Laena Geronimo sat down with ShockHound to discuss their slight obsession with hunting for vintage clothes, the “honesty” of their new album, their old-school, live-to-tape recording process, and one particularly bad “Walk of Shame” in this video interview.
Plus, you won’t want to miss the girls’ punchy performance of the songs “Wishing He Was Dead,” “Fair Game,” “He’s Not A Boy,” and the title track “Release Me,” in this sure-to-get-you-shimmying-in-your-seat Shock Session. Dare we say, you’ll really “Like” it. — Courtney Lear
