On their debut full-length (well, there's only six tracks, but they do total a hair over 40 minutes), New York City thrashers Children sound like their mothers must have raised them on a steady diet of '80s Metallica, Megadeth, Priest and Maiden. The influence of the former pair is apparent in the band's growling vocals and relentless riffing, while the latter two's lasting legacy comes through in the melodic twin leads of guitarists Skyler Spohn and Jonny Olson and the in-the-pocket grooves of Early Man drummer Adam Bennati. Any fan of classic thrash will be immediately won over by the precision and power of opening tracks "Advanced Mind Control" and "Nuclear Bummer," as well as the epic closer "Time is the Living," but the hardcore-leaning "Subterranian Cities" and the Spanish guitar interlude "H.T.H.A.T.E.O.T.W." indicate that these hairy dudes aren't just living in the past. ā Dan Epstein
