About Nina Sky

This US R&B duo enjoyed one of the party hits of 2004 when the dancehall-inspired "Move Ya Body" crossed over into the upper regions of the mainstream chart during the summer. Nina Sky comprises New York-based identical twins Natalie and Nicole Albino. The sisters grew up in the Queens district and by their early teens were already making music and performing together. They chose their unusual recording moniker by using the first two letters of their first names (NiNa), while the "sky" part was taken from Natalie's love of astrological charts. Their career was launched by New York DJ Cipha Sounds, who encouraged the duo to write some lyrics over the top of the dancehall rhythm "Coolie Skank" (a formula used to great effect in summer 2003 by Lumidee). The demo of the track "Move Ya Body' landed the duo a recording contract with Next Plateau, a subsidiary of the major label conglomerate Universal Records, and with plenty of airtime being devoted to the track Nina Sky broke into the US Top 20 in May 2004. The sisters" self-titled debut album featured songwriting input from R&B veteran Betty Wright.
