As is the case with countless other punk subgenres, metalcore’s sometimes staunch conventions can leave little room for innovation or originality. Thankfully for the past decade Every Time I Die have consistently shredded the moshcore textbook to create music that’s as skull-crushing as it is cerebral — and the band’s fifth full-length NEW JUNK AESTHETIC is a case study in what keeps ETID one step ahead of their peers. Correspondingly, songs like “The Marvelous Slut” and “Who Invited The Russian Solider?” are some of the band’s most aggressive and vitriolic material since their 2003 breakthrough HOT DAMN! However that’s not to say that the band are getting lazy on their Epitaph debut; tracks like the midtempo, rock-influenced “Turtles All The Way Down” and ultra-technical “White Smoke” prove that Every Time I Die’s penchant for experimentation hasn’t dissipated. If this is the sound of the band’s new aesthetic, we recommend staying out of their way. — Jonah Bayer

best album i've ever heard, plain and simple. the intensity of the vocals and the content of his lyrics are so technical. amazing.

This is the way I like my music! Powerful, aggressive and catchy! I got Hot Damn and thought it was ok, but that there was something there. Watching Every Time I Die grow on each album since then has been a pleasure, and New Junkie Aesthetic keeps it going! With each release they are fine tuning their style of hardcore/metal/big rock riffs and out of left field poetic lyrics. Not a clunker in the bunch! Well worth the buy.

Think of Hot Damn! and Gutter Phenomenon having a baby and conceding another album. This is that baby/album.
