The 69 Eyes have been dishing up their vampire-rocker schtick for more than a decade; back when today's TWILIGHT readers were still dealing with loose baby fangs, this Finnish combo was boot-deep in moonlit glam rock. For their ninth album, the Eyes teamed up with producer Matt Hyde (Monster Magnet, Hatebreed), undoubtedly with an eye towards translating their success with European audiences to the American market. Hyde's production does a good job of reining in some of the Eyes' more melodramatic tendencies – although vocalist Jyrki 69 sometimes gets the better of himself, as on the Andrew Eldritch-style crooning of "Dead N' Gone" – and focuses instead on the band's ability to combine arena-ready choruses, back-to-basics riffing and blood-red lyricism. The band has long been compared to HIM, and there's little on BACK IN BLOOD to deflect those analogies. But there's also a decidedly looser feel to the Eyes' goth-metal approach (probably owing to their glam roots), and cuts like "Dead Girls Are Easy" and "The Good, the Bad and the Undead" are far more debauched fun than any brooding child of the night would be caught dead having. — Jason Ferguson

Some things DO just continue to get better with age! Being a huge fan of a lot of Finnish bands, I was needless to say in eager anticipation of the release of BACK IN BLOOD by The 69 Eyes. Not only did this album meet my expectations, it totally blew them away! This album is the perfect blend of sounds and styles from both older albums like PARIS KILLS and also newer rockers like ANGELS, but still sounds brand new as well. Every song is great, but the lead and title track "Back in Blood", and the anthemic "Dead Girls are Easy" stand out as full blown rocking out with the windows down and the wind in your hair kick ass rock songs! Buy this album NOW! I repeat, click the link above and buy this album now, you will not be disappointed! Long Live The Helsinki Vampires!
