Sure, they've got the short guy from the Raconteurs and some role player from the Queens of the Stone Age in the band, but let's be real here: The Dead Weather is less a "supergroup" than a sexually-charged battle of the titans between Jack White and Alison Mosshart. HOREHOUND'S wild and swampy sound is obviously the White Stripes/Raconteurs frontman's doing, but it's also more organic-sounding (and, dare we say it, way less contrived) than the White Stripes' last few albums, and way more raw n' alive than anything the Raconteurs have waxed. Mosshart's nicotine-stained morning-after growl doesn't sound much different here than it does with her main gig, the Kills; but on beautifully claustrophobic tracks like "60 Feet Tall," "Treat Me Like Your Mother" and "Bone House," she seems driven to the very brink of hysteria, either by White's overbearing presence or something else much darker — "Just because you caught me/Does that make it a sin?" they ask unrepentantly in the funereal closer, "Will There Be Enough Water?" HOREHOUND is a record where bad, bad things are going on in the heat of the night, and there are still many more hours to go until dawn. — Dan Epstein

Damn Dan does such awesome reviews I can't think of what more to add. But I have to say that "I Cut Like a Buffalo" and "So Far From Your Weapon" stand out strong right behind of course the single "Treat Me Like Your Mother" which I have to say almost reminds me of a hip hop song just about, with two MC's battling. It's fantastic. "I Cut Like a Buffalo" really does pull from that swamp sound they talk about. You just feel voodoo in the air, it gives me similar imagery that Screamin' Jay Hawkins lyrics usually give me. Over all, a couple songs stood out to me, after a few listens, I can't stop listening to the entire album. Another great thing about this album is it just makes you sway back and forth you just can't help it.
