Featured Editorial Review
Forget Whitesnake's late-'80s mega-sellers WHITESNAKE and SLIP OF THE TONGUE — SLIDE IT IN is the Whitesnake record that every self-respecting hard rocker should own. Head 'snake David Coverdale is in a romantic mood here, begging his lady to take him down "Slow & Easy" while promising to "Slide It In" right to the top, and letting her she know that she can just "Spit It Out" if she doesn't like it; after all, "Love Ain't No Stranger" to Coverdale, and he ain't no stranger to love. But the real reason to pick up this special 25th Anniversary Edition of SLIDE IT IN is that it contains the far superior original mix of the album (released only in Europe and Canada at the time), which gives Jon Lord's keyboards and Neil Murray's bass much more prominence, offering a heavier sound that's more similar to early Whitesnake or late-period Deep Purple. Of course, if you prefer the US mix — which layered John Sykes' hair-metal guitar solos over tracks already laid down by Mickey Moody and Mel Galley — that's here too, and it's sounding better than ever. Let it rock you 'til you're burned to the bone. — Dan Epstein
